Every way to get PR in Canada (2026)

In 2026 there are five main routes to Canadian permanent residence: Express Entry (including category-based draws for healthcare, trades and French speakers), a Provincial Nominee Program in your province (91,500 nominations nationally in 2026), Quebec's own programs, regional pilots (Atlantic, rural, francophone communities), and family sponsorship. Below is every pathway, who it's for, and the official source.

Directory verified June 12, 2026. Programs change often — always confirm on the linked official page before planning around a stream.

Federal pathways (anywhere in Canada)

Express Entry (FSW · CEC · FST)

Open

The main federal system: a points-ranked pool covering the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades programs. Recent general-draw cutoffs have been roughly 470–520.

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

You have 1+ year of skilled work experience in Canada.

  • Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

Skilled work experience abroad, strong language scores and education.

  • Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

Certified tradespeople with experience and a job offer or certificate of qualification.

  • Category-based drawsJob-offer CRS points remain removed (since March 2025). Check your score with our CRS calculator.

Lower cutoffs for healthcare & social services, trades, education and strong French speakers — a 2026 healthcare draw invited 4,000 candidates, and one French draw invited a record 8,500.

IRCC — Express Entry

Family sponsorship

Open

Canadian citizens and PRs can sponsor close family for PR. No points system — eligibility and a financial undertaking instead.

Married or 12+ months living together; inland or outland routes.

  • Dependent children

Under 22 and unmarried (with limited exceptions).

  • Parents & Grandparents Program (PGP)

IRCC — Family sponsorship

Open

Employer-driven PR for jobs in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI or Newfoundland & Labrador. No points ranking — a designated-employer job offer is the key.

  • Skilled workers & international graduates

A job offer from a designated Atlantic employer plus a settlement plan; graduates of Atlantic institutions get experience-requirement relief.

IRCC — Atlantic Immigration Program

Rural & Francophone Community Pilots (RCIP / FCIP)

Open

Community-driven PR for smaller centres: a job offer from a designated employer in a participating community leads to PR. RCIP covers 14 communities; FCIP covers 6 francophone communities outside Quebec.

  • Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP)

Job offer in one of 14 participating rural communities.

  • Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP)

French speakers with a job offer in one of 6 designated communities.

IRCC — Rural community pilots

  • Home child care

Child care providers with a qualifying job offer.

  • Home support

Home support workers for seniors or people with disabilities.

A letter of support from a designated organization, CLB 5, and settlement funds.

IRCC — Start-up Visa

Quebec (separate system)

Open

Quebec selects its own skilled immigrants — you apply to Quebec first (CSQ), then to IRCC for PR. French ability is central to every stream.

  • Skilled Worker Selection Program (PSTQ)

Skilled workers; four streams ranked with strong weight on French.

  • Quebec Experience Program (PEQ)

Quebec graduates or temporary workers with French proficiency.
